The Right Place at the Right Time

The TLRS-4 laser ranging system fires into the night sky from the top of Haleakala, Hawaii - Fine art photo by Craig Stocks copyright 2017 by Craig Stocks

As with real estate sometimes photography is about location – being in the right place at the right time. In this case I was at the summit of the Haleakala volcano in Hawaii with my camera set up to capture the outline of the observatory with the night sky and zodiacal light in the background. I was fortunate that they choose that moment to fire the green TLRS-4 laser at just the right angle to create the green streak across the image.  The red in the lower right is from my red-light headlamp. The bright star in the center is Venus.

This and other fine art photos from Maui, Hawaii available here.
