This image has a lot going on. We went to the top of the dormant volcano at Haleakala National Park on Maui for sunrise and arrived with plenty of time. Looking east from the summit I noticed a slim band of light just appearing on the horizon while the stars were still very visible.
The bright area in the center of the sky is zodiacal light which is sometimes visible before sunrise. I got lucky when someone drove back down the road creating a streak of light while their lights “painted” light onto the hillside. The two lumps on the horizon on the right side are the two dormant volcanos 80 miles away on the Big Island of Hawaii, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
