A Busy 44 Minutes in Peoria

Star trails, LifeFlight helicopter streak and an Iridium flare during 44 minutes over the skyline of Peoria, Illinois, Fine art photo by Craig Stocks

This photo captures a 44 minute time span on the evening of Sunday, September 10, 2017. The star trails make it obvious that some amount of time passed. Also visible in the photo were other events during that 44 minutes including the LifeFlight helicopter coming in to land at one of the hospitals and fireworks along the riverfront. There was also an Iridium flare created when the sun reflected off of the Iridium 31 satellite’s solar panel.

Milky Way in Black and White

Black and white fine art photo of the Milky Way over the Green River at Dinosaur National Monument in Utah. Photo copyrigh 2017 by Craig Stocks
I love the timeless feel of black and white in this image of the Green River appearing to flow into the Milky Way taken during our visit to Dinosaur National Monument. Scouting the park during the day revealed this overlook location looking south over the sweeping ‘S’ curve. Apps on my phone confirmed that the Milky Way would be in the right position over the river from that vantage point.

Illinois Wind Farm at Night

Fine art photo by Craig Stocks showing an Illinois wind farm at night with the Milky Way in the skyI’ve found there are some very strong feelings about wind farms among the people who live near them. They mostly object to the noise and the bright flashing lights at night.

Light Painting on a Grand Scale

Night photo showing the Milky Way over Badlands National Park with streaks of light in the foreground from a passing car. Fine art photograph by Craig Stocks

I love light painting night scenes so this was a good opportunity to use our car as the light source to paint light on the road and the surrounding hillsides. And a big “thank you” to my wife Debbie for getting up with me in the middle of the night so I could get the photo of her driving by.
